Ephesians 4:29

With everything that has been happening in our world today, I have noticed an immense amount of hatred being shown between individuals.  Rather than recognizing and appreciating each other's differences, individuals bring others down, harass, and mock them for these things.
I am a bridal consultant at a local bridal shop.  I help brides find their perfect wedding gown.  Many times, brides will bring in their friends and family to help them make the decision.  Just recently, I had a bride come in with her mom.  Every time the bride would try on a dress, the mother would make a comment on how fat her daughter was.  She would say that she did not fit into the dress and she could not wear it because she was so fat.  As the consultant, I tried to gear the attention away from what the mother was saying and turn it towards the bride.  I asked her to look in the mirror and tell me how she felt in the dress and explain to me what she liked and disliked.  I told her how beautiful she was and told her how great she looked in the dress.  At the end of the appointment, she was looking to me for opinions rather than her mom because she wanted an honest, yet uplifting and kind opinion.  The Bible tells us, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen" (Ephesians 4:29).  This bride needed encouragement and help on making a big decision for her wedding day.  We must remember to treat all people with kindness and respect.
We are called to love all people just as we love ourselves.  We need to remember the example of love that Jesus showed to all people in his time here on earth.  He loved everyone, even those who mocked and persecuted him.  We must remember that every person is God's creation and we must show love to them no matter what.

Blessings,
Dani Finn

  1. Wow! Dani you did an amazing thing helping the bride. It is really sad her own mother could be so negative to her own child. I am glad you were there to encourage the bride and help her through a hard decision for her big day. I promise you she will not forget it and I hope she passes on love like you did. Our world is full of hate right now and steps like this will help bring us together and spread the love for each other. I believe when you do something positive for someone else it makes them want to do the same thing. God is working through us to be bring us all together.

Wonderful job Dani, God bless you!

    Hebrews 6:10
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

  2. Hi Dani,

I really loved reading this post. It is so uplifting to hear your kind thoughts concerning kindness and its importance when speaking to others. I would be so upset hearing a mother speak to her daughter in such a negative way. I am glad that you were able to turn the situation around and extend God's love and kindness to this woman who needed your support and confidence. It takes strength to stand up and be supportive of those being put down and I am glad that you have that strength that can only come from God.

Our world is definitely hurting and instead of turning to kind words, we often turn to harsh ones. I think for a lot of people it is easier to be mean than kind because of our fallen nature and how humans have a tendency to be selfish or bitter rather than letting it go and taking more care and consideration with our words. Without God, we are truly unable to show true love and I hope that as Christians we can show that love and be God's representation here on Earth.

Have a wonderful day and may God bless you!
